Getting a high value per mile is very subjective. I only consider what I would have otherwise paid when calculating this. If you would otherwise fly BE then that would be the reference cost/value from my perspective, and not a $10k ticket in business that would would never have paid for. Using something you wouldn't pay for as the reference cost can lead to all kinds of foolish behavior in pursuit of "value."
This. x 10,000. The bloggers have turned cpm into the biggest thing when it is very subjective, and not always something one wants.
The best value for miles is one YOU are happy with. For some, it may be that fantasy trip in F to some far off place, sure. For others, it may be using them for a last-minute trip with zero flexibility that is otherwise too much cash to pay for (maybe to a funeral or visiting a sick relative, for example). At least to me, valuing a trip based on something I would never pay for is just silly unless you highly value pushing some huge metric to stoke your ego.
