Avis's lack of accountability for eTolls is frustrating

I recently rented at MCO. I did travel through toll booths, but left the built-in transponder stowed, and used by personal transponder.
All the toll booths I traveled in were properly billed to my personal toll account.
About a week after I returned the car, I got an email from the eToll company saying I had a bunch of charges.
I reviewed, and every single one of them was for times after I returned the car. And through toll booths that I did not travel through.
So I disputed it with the eToll company, who says Avis told them I had the car at that time so they are my tolls.
Avis says eToll is a separate company and the only thing I can do is take it up with the eToll company.
IMO Avis should not just be able to feed bad info to the eToll company and just shrug it off.

I guess Ill just dispute it with Chase and let them sort it out.
