This is what I expected. We've done it before and it hasn't been an issue even when asked for ID but this was in the US. We've never tried in Asia where the rules will be more strictly enforced. I don't see it being against the terms anywhere but if the hotel checking us in deems it to be against them we're SOL because a Japanese hotel will not bend them at all if they think it's not allowed.
