I have never had an issue when travelling with the wife when using either a rate she is entitled to or a corporate rate I am entitled to, even though all of our stays go to my Bonvoy account. I do not know that this is in writing or policy, however it seems that if one person staying in the room can produce appropriate ID they are OK. In the US, I rarely am asked for proof, but internationally they usually do want to see proof of rate, even on AAA rate.
