Peak dates at Regent PQC are an example of where the Chase 4th night free works in the guest's favor. If your dates are reasonably flexible, you can book dates that make the most expensive night the fourth, thereby free night. This can smooth out some of the crazy peak pricing. This is also true for e.g., hotels in Japan, where Saturday nights are often very expensive, so nice to get that night free. Apart from that, as minz56 says, check the calendar for pricing -- this is (was?) also a great way to find those unusually low priced dates.

Oh, I totally agree. If you're flexible in terms of dates and locations, lots of great deals remain. In fact, I'm not convinced that this devaluation will be permanent, as there have been episodes of major increases before, which then turned out to be temporary. I'm booked up through end-of-schedule (with over a dozen 4-night award stays) and have exhausted my points purchase limit for the year (including Daily Getaways and transfers), so pretty easy to just sit back and watch what's unfolding. Although TBH I'm firmly on the side of "lots of good deals remain even if the devaluation sticks" and I'd rather have a million IHG points in the bank in case some unusually good deals surface, rather than being happy to be "safe" with a low balance.
