Getting a high value per mile is very subjective. I only consider what I would have otherwise paid when calculating this. If you would otherwise fly BE then that would be the reference cost/value from my perspective, and not a $10k ticket in business that would would never have paid for. Using something you wouldn't pay for as the reference cost can lead to all kinds of foolish behavior in pursuit of "value."

Use the miles to book the ticket then cash to upgrade. Did that last year and got a $300 each way upgrade to PP.
