I can't speak for flight crew, but cabin crew are either on airport standby, or home standby.

Sounds like they had no one on airport standby, which is unusual.

If home then they have 2 hours to get to LHR. My partner hates home standby as tied to the house for up to 8 hours waiting for the phone to ring...or not.
