It takes years to build a reputation, but just a day to ruin it. I would describe IHG management as lacking integrity, dishonest, devious, guilty of short-term thinking, taking a one-time profit at the expense of gutting the long term value of the IHG program.

I was a buyer of points, active user of IHG credit card, I pay for more nights than I use points at. I’ve been burned.
Who will buy points now? not me, not any smart consumer
Will they increase points earned on credit card to compensate? probably not, credit card is no longer competitive
Will they increase points earned on paid nights to compensate? probably not, paid nights are effectively more expensive (less rebate)

jpdx is probably right, there are still opportunities to get value, but harder to find.

Is it still worth getting diamond?
Milestone rewards along the way getting to Diamond quickly gives a lot of value and the free breakfast which you get by being a diamond member in some geographies can save you hundreds of dollars per year.
