I'm choosing between two options to fly to LHR (SEA-YYZ-LHR), an earlier flight on the A330 vs a later one on the 777-300ER. I have been on both aircraft but with other carriers so many times so I'm not really chasing any particular plane as an AvGeek (well, the 777-200LR, actually but it is not on these routes). My instinct tells me to pick the earlier flight since AC is supposedly world-famous for its delays (this would be my first time flying AC).
IMHO there is no comparison...the 777 is better hands down by a mile. While they both have lie flat pods in J, the 330 has the 'honey I shrunk them' version. I find them noticeably smaller and more cramped with less storage space than on the 777. The 330 also doesn't have air vents above the seat so I often find it warm and stuffy.
My favourite seats are A or K in the last row of the first J cabin on the 777 as I find them to be a bit more private, and have a bit more space than the rows further up. If pressed, I'd do the last row of the 2nd, mini J cabin, but know if you do the other 400 people on the plane will stream past you on the way to their seats.
With regard to delays...AC 858 seems to be lovingly known as 85Late, but YMMV and any flight can be delayed on any day. If you are flying Paid J or on a J Flexible Redemption you can bide your time in the Signature Suite if delayed so that's not bad. Unless i had a tight connection at LHR that I couldn't miss, I'd go for the 777 over the 330 for sure.
