Sounds like a lot of money, presumably it was an urgent trip. Weather is a legitimate reason for not paying compensation, and we do run an FAQ thread for flight delays to track this. On 30 June there were some weather issues that day, and the ATC report indicated CB activity for example. So it may be correct, but the key question is "what did the captain say on boarding?" - they give a briefing and often the captain says something in the pre-flight briefing that will help a claim. Otherwise, you best ask about this in the FAQ thread, but ideally within a day or so of it happening, at this stage it's probably too late to find out more.
