Is it the case that by simply cancelling and rebooking tickets, you would be better off? Since a cancelled flight does give you a full refund for the ticket as booked (not if the return is on a separate reservation). If you have already accepted this alternative date then that moment has passed, you need to not accept the new flight time for this to work.
