I too was used to not having to re-clear security after arriving from the US. Now that I think of it—maybe this has always only been at NRT and not at HND? I can't seem to think why there would be a difference between the two airports though.

Last month while arriving from the US into HND, I noticed that the way back up to departures was simply blocked off. It didn't matter to me since I had a long enough layover that I wanted to pop into town anyways. Wonder if Japanese authorities have suddenly lost confidence in US TSA's ability to ensure passengers arrive properly screened?
