You might want to suggest your parents consider a Haleakala sunset instead of a sunrise. The colors are even more incredible, last longer and there are no crowds. They can visit the summit before sunset to look at the scenery, then head down abit and park at a romantic overlook, bundle-up for warmth and enjoy this awe-inspiring event together in peace and quiet on the mountain at nightfall. Also no bikers to dodge on the drive back down and very little car traffic.

After the sunset, they can head into town for a nice beachside dinner at Pacific'O in Lahaina.
