If I take a UA positioning flight to my ET departure city and UA checks my luggage through to my destination, I will typically stay air-side and just do the checking in at the departure gate for the ET flight and get issued my ET boarding pass, have my passport checked, etc.

Can I reasonably expect to get my voucher at the gate or would it be better to go land-side and check back in land-side?
