I have not asked the "rules" to be changed to benefit me----rather to have the airline achieve an optimal business model, if possible. That would include the extra revenue the wouldn't have come if it had incentivized customers to book another carrier that had a better perk---thus better financially for both carrier and customer---as I outlined.
Both burning miles and using another carrier are options, as noted above. Agree. For my personal situation, I do wind up giving away hundreds of thousands of miles per year, not only on AS, but the major carriers I alluded to. Not sure that it is "no big deal". It is to the charities and employees that I have given them to.
Reverting back to the first point, the improved business model I have advocated is to incentivize flyers to go beyond a finite threshold, which I, in a simple way, would be to improve revenue for the carrier, AS. Since we have both mentioned that flyers may well use other carriers, I submit the potential to incentivize this by changing the threshold over 100eqm flying might be a reasonable thing to consider. If that is an unwise thing, I would appreciate the elucidation of the mechanism of that pathway, if possible.
I would add something that I think is not the prime focus, that I hold equity in AKL as an investor, and am looking out for AS from that perspective as well. If there are criticisms of that, I am willing to learn. AKL stock has been a dog lately, but I still fly them and promote best things for them when I can. Numerous FT posters, not just on AS matters, but on places like the BA board, are staunch defenders of the carrier's position, even when flyers have claimed fairly glaring grievances on flight matters.
So much of my comment is not from a "greedy" flyer who goes over 100 eqm, a threshold that awakens arrows of attack from posters. I hope it is looking at it from the carrier's, and passenger's view both. This is Flyertalk, and I have seen diverse opinions since I joined 23 yrs ago right before 9/11. I try not to post too much, and only on things of improvement to others, or other relevance. Appreciate the other comments, and reply to
flytoeat that I don't think I am an "outlier". I think other posts have supported that.
