A lot of brands/models leave the hood release 'exposed,' but I found that Audi has an novel approach. The inside hood release is placed such that it can't be operated unless the driver's door is open. Saves from the quoted 'driving down the highway' mishaps. (You can see it plainly when you're in the cabin with the door closed, but the way it pivots to activate, the action can't be completed unless the door is open.)
