Maashotel is now renamed to a DoubleTree

Mainport and Maashotel, two hotels built next to each other, both starting with Ma... I found it confusing. That’s over now because the Maashotel is now called DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre (RTMDTDI). Here are some photos from a visit in February this year, when I booked a room in the newer part of the Maashotel, a King Deluxe Room with River View.

The announcement of the conversion.

The view from my room.

The day before arrival I could select rooms from the lowest floor up to floor 8, with no upgrade. While the tower went all the way up to floor number 16. I could have waited until the next morning and retried check-in then, but I noticed that a corner room on floor 8 was available. Floor eight is where the pool, sauna, and fitness are located. I like it when you don't need to take an elevator to get to such facilities. So I selected that room, and on arrival, I wasn't upgraded further. But compare this to the Mainport hotel where I was upgraded pre-arrival on both my visits from a basic room to the best category suite.

Now for the view: 1) The green building where you'll arrive from the public parking garage. Maashotel / DoubleTree doesn't provide parking, the spaces underneath the hotel are for valet parking at the Mainport Hotel next door. So it is still a small walk towards the hotel, while the tram and underground metro stop in front of the hotel. 2) One of the water taxis that continuously cross the river. They are not very expensive, from 5 euros. n) Is just nother hotel in the left tower of De Rotterdam - Wikipedia. 3) Cruise Port Rotterdam – Port & Tourist Information

The room had windows on two sides. The small window on the left could be opened.

While the (standard) guest rooms only have an open shower, this deluxe room has both a bath and a separate shower (with doors).

I wondered why the bathroom had an American-style doorknob. Very unusual in Europe if you ask me.

The floorplan is not very accurate. 802 and 804 should be about the size of 806.

Sauna (left) and pool (right). Sorry that I didn't adjust the headrests to an equal level before taking this shot. Also should have kicked the towel in the laundry basket. By the way, the sauna provides an outside view. There's also a turbo tan bed available.

A very small fitness room.

For trivia, the Euromast - Wikipedia tower in the center of the picture (not the spire on top) was designed by Huig Maaskant, who also designed Hilton Rotterdam and he was involved with the design of Hilton Amsterdam. These days there are two hotel suites in that halfway section of the Euromast.

The wellness section is on top of the Mainport hotel, hence you'll need to take a small stair to get there.

Behind the DoubleTree wellness area, the Mainport has its own wellness area, twice as large as the DoubleTree's. If you're a guest at DoubleTee you can get access for 7 or 8 euros a person. Mind you, in the Mainport sauna, you'll have to wear your birthday suit.

Impression of the area near the hotel.

Another trivial fact: the white building in the center of the picture was Europe's tallest skyscraper when it was completed in 1897. At least, that's what they say locally, it's probably true.

One thing that's certainly unique to the city today is Rif010 Urban Surf Rotterdam. It just opened a couple of days ago.
