Duty of care means protecting pax from harm that is reasonably foreseeable. alcohol does not immediately turn people into monsters. to suggest otherwise you would pretty much have to argue for airlines, or even all public places to be dry.

Taking these posts at face value, the OP suffered harm on her flight. I'm not trying to be insensitive nor minimize that. but I'd like to politely suggest that the airline handled the manner in a responsible and effective manner, given what we know. the at fault party is the ... who apparently cant handle his booze. I'd like to suggest that some time be taken to really consider if there are any other at fault parties here.
"(c) No certificate holder may allow any person to board any of its aircraft if that person appears to be intoxicated.

"(d) Each certificate holder shall, within five days after the incident, report to the Administrator the refusal of any person to comply with paragraph (a) of this section, or of any disturbance caused by a person who appears to be intoxicated aboard any of its aircraft."
