As your flight is next year, I would spend some time on this forum learning from the wealth of knowledge on this forum on how to accumulate some avios/miles where you can then make an award redemption (either outright or as an upgrade) rather than expecting the airline to upgrade you for free.

Depending on where you are based this could be done through credit card sign ups or even buying miles. Whilst not BA, purchasing Avianca Lifemiles would allow you to redeem on any star alliance carrier in business class (subject to award availability) for a very reasonable cost.
