I hear you... it's always about the almighty dollar. I do think, however, there is a balance to strike and it has felt for the last few years that they've selected "save money" over "maintain or improve the product". Do that too many times, and your guests start to take notice.
The rooms are starting to come due for refurbishment, and I will be very curious to see what they decide to do with that project. If they cheap out on that and don't maintain the quality of the most previous renovation, I will be very disappointed.
The problem is that there are not a lot of alternatives on Kauai. Besides the 1 Hotel, are there really any luxury options on the island? The GH may still be the second-best resort on the island. It's going to take a lot for guests to book away from the GH.
