First off, if you're doing J instead of F, then my personal choice of aircraft would be a 787, not the 77w (it's quieter and has improved humidity and cabin altitude, so improved comfort and not landing all dried out). This also opens up the option to fly from SEA with NH or JL. JL also flies from SAN. So you could put those on the list in addition to SFO and LAX.
NH's 787 uses their older staggered seat which isn't terrible but pretty dated now.
JL's 787 uses the apex suite, the best J seat for folks our size IMO (the a35k seat may be good too but it is only flying JFK and DFW currently so that's out of your way)
On the 77w options, you have the crapshoot of NH The Room or staggered business depending on whether the craft is retrofitted.
I'm not a fan of SQ's 77w J seat with its weird flip-the-seat-back-over design and slight angle.
JL has the apex suite on the 77w in J.
Thanks so much for this! I just checked JL from SFO to Tokyo. Looks like they use the 777 for SFO > HND and the 787 for SFO > NRT. I prefer NRT for this trip so that works well. Do all 787s have the Apex Suite J product? The flights I'm looking at (SFO > NRT > SFO) only have 5 rows of J class with no F. Is that typical?
