international connections can be up to 23h59min without breaking the fare; you'll both have to collect checked bags at LAX after arrival on the intl segment

if you call AS and request they split the booking (i.e., spouse will get a separate reservation number), you can then ask to book him on the desired LAX-SEA flight the next day
