Maybe I'm missing something in your conversation or thought process but the Aspire $50 airline credit works completely different from the other cards in AMEX's portfolio like the Plat/Gold. You DO NOT have to pre-select an airline. And the $50 quarterly credit works on any airfare purchased anywhere in the world (provided it codes as an airline). Example: I just purchased a ticket directly with Airlink (African airline) and was given the $50 credit 3 days after the charge posted.
