While there are options for extra tier points by having stopovers in mainland USA, the journey is a long one - even in business or first - so not something I’d recommend!

If you’re not looking for a complex routing and know roughly when you want to travel, it’s easy enough to check flight prices on BA.com then go to the holiday tool to add a hotel or car for the double tier points.

I’d also recommend at least one other island, and you are likely to get a better deal flying to or from one of them compared to HNL. Inter island flights are cheap and frequent. And you can book using the BA holiday complex itinerary easily enough.
