Not convinced... just look at the scrum when Group 1 is called... typically four or five rows of CE mean (at most) 20 CEs (less any Group 0s) yet more than half the plane rushes forward.
Even allowing for the theoretical maximum of 12 rows still only accounts for 48 CE seats.
I'd argue that the number of Golds is the problem on SH ;-)
Calling Gold as G1, then CE as G2 would bring negligible benefit to the boarding sequence... CE as G1 and Gold as G2 would spread the load a bit... Of course, gate handlers calling Groups 1-3 in one go means it would, in reality, make no difference.
