At the end of the day, the problem isn’t so much the policy as it is the automation. If you could find a real person at LH to deal with, I’m fairly certain you could convince them that their computer was wrong. But it’s very difficult to find a real customer service agent these days, particularly in functions which don’t’ directly drive revenue.

I misspoke. You are right, Montenegro is not part of Schengen. So when we traveled from non-Schengen TIV to non-Schengen DUB, we did not have to go through immigration at MUC since we were in transit between the two non-Schengen countries. I appreciate that you would accept my sufficient circumstantial evidence. After all, I did not dream I was on the LH flight in question.
