For day of departure problems an AAgent will be able to handle changes directly.

If the door opens on time in CLT then 0:46 is plenty of time for that connection. Probably even time for a few minutes in the dismal C/D Admirals Club, if you want to see what a really bad lounge looks like.

Are you traveling in first/business or in economy? If J, that will get you off the plane in CLT more quickly but if you need to rebook it will likely be harder to find open J seats the day of departure than open Y seats.
Flying all first/business, so should help to be in the front to get out as quickly as possible.

If the OP miss the flight to MAD he/she will most likely be rebooked via LHR. No need to book from LAX or via JFK.
That situation is what kinda gives me less anxiety about the whole situation, there are options if everything goes a bit south. I'm also covered by AMex insurance, and I do have status with IB and OW Emerald (if that helps for AA.)

My last East Coast-LHR IROPS resulted in splitting PNRs as there were only single seats out that evening via different routings. That was between 10 JFK flights, 3 BOS flights and I believe two from PHL (original routing).

If I’m the OP, why deal with the headache of a potential day of departure issue, especially without AA status. Also, the timing gets cut down if somewhat far back in Y. The IB booking situation makes it more challenging, but I’m sure there’s a way. I’d advise setting up some FlightAware alerts on the flights / inbound flights for any delays.
Valid points, appreciate it. I do use Fligthy and have premium versions of FlightAware and the usual so I will keep an eye on it. My AA status is the basic one, but I do have OneWorld Emerald for the next 2 years so perhaps that helps if it comes to it.

In general, both IB and AA has tried to help, but there are some weird restrictions where MCT says it's 35 min and doesn't allow them to change for free the ticket. That be the truth or not idk at this point.
