A couple of points from me. One of the concerns with mosquitos is that they can leave the aircraft and bite someone who has not travelled. For someone without travel history to a region affected by say malaria you may not get tested for it until too late when seriously ill.

As for smoke detectors, there are two common types as I understand it. The type you would find in homes are usually the ionisation type which have a tiny amount of radio active material inside. They work by ionising the smoke particles and detecting that electronically. They are not sensitive to vapour/steam such as from deodorants. The optical type which I suspect is what are used on aircraft detect what is visible and are therefore affected by steam as well as smoke.
