BA can only rebook onto 'legacy' carriers so if your flight is cancelled and BA don't offer any reasonable same-day alternatives, you would generally be entitled to recover your costs in rebooking onto LCCs such as easyJet. Don't get a refund on your BA booking though - that will only complicate matters as it could be seen as giving up your right to be rebooked.
