Sorry about the typo causing confusion. I have a non-protected 65-minute layover in KUL. I have corrected the MH flight arrival time in the original post.
To provide information for someone who stumbles upon this thread: setting aside whether MH can accommodate with or without fees, if missing the connecting MH88 flight, there is MH70 departing 09:40 the following day; NH816 departing 08:00. Just a couple of options to get you to Tokyo, which may be helpful to know.
It is your responsibility to make MH88. If you no show, you can't assume MH70 the following day is an option (i.e. it's almost pointless to even mention it).
