Indeed. I added to my comment: "But even with that [an ESTA], things are looking grim this close to departure and needing something quick to avoid missing the first/send day of their conference."

Best I can see is AC flights out of Halifax at 6AM tomorrow morning for $3.5k-$4k (round-trip) taking ~22h. Adding US to the picture doesn't actually improve things.
