I don’t think this is correct wrt credit card insurance. Of course purchased travel insurance terms vary, the Amex Platinum travel Insurance that kicks in when buying the ticket using the card, doesn’t cover no show charge under any circumstances. And they only cover the cost of an unplanned overnight in case of missed connection, not cancellation at departure for any reason. And the cost of meals, lodging, etc in case of missed connection is capped at $250 pp.

in all cases, no distinction between mechanical or weather as causes of delay.

I don’t think no show fees are covered by Chase Sapphire Preferred either, only the unintended hotel you need because of delay. No distinction between weather and mechanical, but secondary to carrier reimbursements (which in practice is limited to mechanical).
