Mainly I looked up the return legs to confirm that they were otherwise ETOPS-eligible aircraft. Confirms that WJ hasn’t drained its well of ETOPS aircraft. Dunno what percentage of its fleet is kept up to ETOPS standards.
With this evidence, I’d also infer that WJ has moved most/all of its non-union managerial mechanics (if any) out of Halifax, St. John’s and probably Toronto to Calgary and Vancouver to keep the pacific flights going.
The St. John’s NL to London Gatwick is in flight right now non-ETOPS and flying slightly *west*, and will add ~37% in distance vs direct:
