The difference is that the XLRs will be running premium transcon and Europe. Domestically there’s going to be more workload between J and PE compared to regular domestic F on a A321neo; and internationally more in all cabins.

Perhaps AA will try to do a bare bones staffing of 4 for the transcons (coach often only gets 1 beverage service these days anyway on the transcons), and 5 internationally.
