Being unregistered is problematic, but registering when you're already in the system isn't a big deal. In fact, whenever any of us (foreign residents) travel within China and stay in hotels that process us properly, we end up with simultaneous PSB registrations.
Was just going to post the same thing.
I don't know anyone who de-registers at the police station where they live when they just do a short, few-day trip somewhere in China.
