For the more expensive Rimowa suitcases, which can be €2k excluding whatever the contents are, I would recommend making an excess value declaration to BA stating the replacement cost of the suitcase:

This way there can be no argument that they were not properly notified of the value of the case and its contents.
Even clothing now is often more than $2k, for lost and significantly damaged suitcases...
I've had to gate check a couple of times, and trying to ask for an excess value declaration leads to gate agents becoming very confused.
