I was in Montreal summer 2004.

I used priceline to get a rate of $41 at the 3* Hyatt. This property is undergoing renovation, but if you have Gold VIP Passport etc you would prob get an exec room. It has a great location, comfy beds and is a Hyatt...for $41 it really cannot be beat. Certainly in the moderate category though.

I know this is the luxury forum, but a bargain like that just has to be taken advantage of!

I also stayed in the Hotel St. Paul, which I felt was a little overpriced for what was on offer (though generally I like minimalist funky hotels) although it had the BEST bathroom I have been in in any hotel in a long time.

The Nelligan also gets good marks as a boutique offering, a nice homely feel with fireplaces etc; ideal for a Montreal winter break IMHO.
