I don't buy hardshell cases for this very reason. Plus strong ballistic material exteriors also provide good protection and being material allow some expansion when packing. Not to mention you can press them to a degree so they fit into the bag sizers if asked to do so.
I have a Samsonite Pro DLX 4 which which apart from needing a wheel replaced and some WD-40 in the handle has served me very well for years, where I've travelled monthly.
