I don't like the idea of upgrades clearing at the gate. It's ok for free upgrades due to overbooking, but NOT for paid upgrades, incl. e-vouchers and miles. The airport experience is an important part of the entire first class package, especially when there's a nice lounge available such as in ZRH or assistance to cut airport security lines such as in JFK. I wonder if anyone has any experience in claiming a partial refund of miles / e-vouchers in case of a gate upgrade of say 20% of the paid miles?
