1. There is more than one version of American Express Platinum. She could open, say, Business Platinum.
She did try opening a Schwab Platinum but was denied the bonus on the "pre-application" page, so I don't think opening a different flavor of the personal Amex Platinum allows the bonus in less than 2 years.
