Just to catch everyone up, I have had some mad fun hooning around Madeira. The drivers are a bit wild, but the variable in skilled v overcautious motorists makes things quite thrilling.

The road network is amazing. Insane rollercoaster-like dual carriageways and switchbacks galore, and never-wracking goat tracks that are barely a car-width that the GPS thinks is a road.

The first day was overcast, but I decided I would test my mettle and go to the Fanal Forest in the late evening to maximise the chance of eerieness.

I came across this bar on the way down from my hotel and the sight of a guy having a quiet beer after work was an irresistible capture.



Stopped at Ponta de Sol to get the postcard picture of the town and the bridge to the pier.




As I climbed into the clouds the sun burst through and this was the scene and highlights the road carved into the side of the hill.

It was nice to get back through the fleet of uppity bovines and get back to the previous spots right on sunset.
