No one does it for Silver (unless they're close to qualifying and need a few remaining XP to reach it). However, if you travel enough to potentially earn Gold, it may be worth it! Just make sure to weigh the costs of these extra flights vs benefits you get in return (the latter is something you need to value yourself - how much is fast track, lounge, etc worth to you).
