Open-jaw awards definitely qualify for the cheaper roundtrip award levels (just like open-jaw revenue fares qualify for cheaper roundtrip fares). It sounds like OP plans on booking return one-way with different program miles (which may or may not have carrier surcharges) or cash.
Open-jaw CVG-EDI + DUB-CVG start at $926 roundtrip in Main on DL for a Friday-Friday trip.
Sun-Wed outbound fares are $109 less. Just as with awards, there are separate fares that depend on which day of the week you fly with cheaper fares available on less popular days of the week for travel. I doubt fares will get cheaper than these out of CVG. There are cheaper revenue fares and awards out of NYC to these markets currently, but the repositiioning costs would likely offset any savings from flying out of NYC.
