I am not surprised - human nature is that when you are told something is going to happen over and over again and it doesn't, you become complacent. Hence, the story of "The Boy who Cried Wolf." I see people treating the seatbelt sign now as they do the safety video - they just ignore it. We weren't even to 10,000 feet on my last flight (from SLC where there is almost always chop on the climb/descent (it was smooth though) and it's not like we had a long taxi or delay at the gate or anything) and multiple people were getting up to use the lav.
