I could not agree more with the advice about the butter. Most times it is wasted. The biggest problem is that the butter is as hard as the hub of hell and you cannot spread it. There is no way around that.
Dearest, I have found an easy way around it: soften the butter by putting it in contact with anything warm on your tray - be that the bread roll, the plate (if you're lucky enough to have a hot meal) or simply a cup of tea or coffee.
Does mean that the bread roll has to be left for a while until the butter has softened, but beggars can't be choosers...
