My father is flying back to the US and wants to bring a few jars of sour cherry preserves that he made himself while in the "old country".

Security isn't the issue, as he will be checking his bag, but what I worry about is US customs once he gets here. Will the agents allow such a product to go through? Jarred/canned items are usually okay, but homemade?
