Last year, I had a similar situation. I booked TK through United and was unable to select seats. I called TK customer service and told them I forgot my ticket number. After security questions, they told me a ticket number, and with that number, I was able to use the app to book the seats. I'm unsure if anything has changed since then, but you can try. As others mentioned, it was only working on the app.
