Fun one tonight. Was on the 738 to Geneva. Last flight of the day meant to land at 22:40. Several micro delays: late incoming, slow cleaning, bus gate and then some ATC delays meant we were going to be about an hour late. About 20 mins from landing get the info that Geneva is closed because control tower is flooded. So we are diverting to Lyon. But minutes from landing we are re-diverted to Basel where we wait for 30 mins on the ground while they get info from ops. I guess Lyon was swamped with other diversions. Apparently plan is to get us on coaches (which would mean a 4am arrival to Geneva and maybe a 4:30 arrival at my folks’). So we are sent to the BA check in desks.

Of course no one is there and after 15 mins I get in a cab and book a hotel. There wasn’t much at this late hour and I think I got the last non-suite room at the Mövenpick next to station. Flustered clerk was getting slammed by phone ringing off the hook. Will get an early train to Geneva tomorrow, 3 hours vs 1 hour from Lyon but whatevs. Not sure what happened to most other people and there was an angry mob queuing when I left the airport. Clerk said he had just had a call asking for 40 rooms from the airport so that may well have been my flight mates. Got a few useless texts from BA including one just now helpfully saying my flight to Geneva will terminate in Basel and that they’ve sent me an email. Still not received anything.
