As I don't transit ORD often, I was surprised at the AA-shared gate situation with Spirit/NK on the L gates. While I was waiting at L10A and chatting with GA, he shared that AA actually owns "those" gates - I believe he was referring to L10C and L7 - and that AA would be getting those back soon. Not surprisingly, there was drama at the Spirit gates and he was awaiting for the day that AA would have all of the L gates to themselves. Not sure where Spirit may relocate.
Spirit will eventually be going to T5, but that will be years down the road when T5 isn't the only terminal that can handle Intl Arrivals. AA does own those gates, and just has long term leases out to Spirit to use them, as AA doesn't have enough flights to warrant their use. They (via Envoy) also provide gate agents for the smaller airlines at T3 (Denver Air, Contour)
