SFO will be easier to get due to a lower level of competition than DEN but I’m hearing DEN would make more sense (Enilria said so and OP observes so as well). I think UA will apply for SFO and slowly transfer the current SFO slot (which UA can freely move) to DEN, making it 2xDEN and 1xSFO.
F9 has 3 flights a day DEN-DCA, but an early afternoon departure from DEN would provide good connecting options, which would be the main motivation from DEN. A morning departure from DCA to DEN would also provide flow in to DEN. For many of the Denver spokes this would be best route to DCA, seems like a no brainer?
